Dr. Yuchen Hu
Dr. Hu was born and raised in San Francisco, California, and completed his schooling in California and Philadelphia before working in the Midwest. Originally from the West Coast, he and his wife Jessie are thrilled to be back home near family in Washington State. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and opened his practice in Renton in 2019.
What draws Dr. Hu to dentistry is the unique blend of art and science—he loves working with his hands and helping people smile again. For him, being able to make a meaningful difference in people's lives through his craft is what makes his work truly fulfilling. His approach combines technical skill with genuine care, creating an environment where patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment. Dr. Hu is dedicated to remaining on the cutting edge of technology and dentistry and has completed more than 1000 hours of continuing education and completed the Clinical Mastery series in comprehensive dentistry and full mouth implant reconstruction from the Academy of Implant Excellence.
Outside the dental office, Dr. Hu has a passion for dance that might surprise people; he used to be a breakdancer and still loves to dance with his wife. He's also an enthusiastic tango dancer, and when he's not on the dance floor, you'll find him enjoying good food and exploring new destinations through travel.
Jessie
Office Manager/Dental Assistant
Jessie joined Hu Smiles in 2019 with her husband, Dr. Hu, and a desire to support him in providing excellent patient care. She completed her training at the Art Institute of Seattle, bringing both administrative expertise and chairside skills to the practice.
As office manager and dental assistant, Jessie works closely with patients from their very first call, guiding them through checking coverage, setting up appointments, and assisting chairside throughout their smile journey. What she loves most about her role is helping patients overcome their dental anxiety. Many arrive feeling nervous due to past experiences, and she finds it incredibly rewarding to help them feel comfortable and minimize their concerns. For Jessie, learning about patients and making new friends along the way is one of the most fulfilling aspects of her work.
Outside the office, Jessie shares her husband's passion for dance, particularly Argentine Tango, which they enjoy together. She also loves building 3D puzzles, a hobby that showcases her attention to detail and patience. A fun fact many people don't know: Jessie was a flight attendant for American Airlines for seven years before joining the dental field.
Irene
Dental Assistant
Irene joined the practice in 2018, seeking to gain professional experience in a hands-on field. She completed her training right here in the office, learning the intricacies of dental assisting while working alongside the team under the previous owner before transitioning with the practice to its current leadership.
As a dental assistant, Irene provides comprehensive chairside support for Dr. Hu, prepares instruments and materials for all procedures, maintains a clean and organized office environment, manages inventory, and ensures every patient receives attentive care. What she enjoys most about her role is the opportunity to chat with patients, share laughs about food, joke around with Jessie and Dr. Hu, and witness the transformations that come with beautiful, healthy teeth. Her warm, friendly approach helps create a comfortable atmosphere where patients feel at ease.
Outside the office, Irene enjoys expressing her creativity through digital drawing on her computer and playing games. She's also working on a personal wellness challenge—finding ways to drink more water throughout the day. An interesting fact about Irene: She is an art major and is considering returning to school to further her education.
My experience at Hu Smiles has been phenomenal! I experienced a dental emergency the week I moved here from across the country and didn’t know anyone or have an established dentist.
