What counts as a dental emergency?

Call us right away at (253) 277-8767 if you have:

  • Severe tooth pain or pressure
  • Swelling, infection, or abscess
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Knocked-out tooth
  • Broken filling, crown, bridge, or denture
  • Injury from sports or accidents
  • Bad taste, pus, or heat sensitivity

Benefits of Prompt Emergency Dental Care

Postponing emergency dental care is never a good choice and can lead to worsening pain and long-term damage to your oral health. Seeking prompt treatment offers several benefits:
Stop the Pain Fast
Dental emergencies are stressful, and you shouldn’t have to wait for relief. We offer same-day care when possible, focusing on getting you comfortable quickly and feeling like yourself again.
Save Damaged Teeth
Quick treatment can prevent tooth loss, stop an infection from spreading, and protect the tooth’s structure. If a tooth can be saved, we’ll do everything possible to preserve it.
Avoid ER Visits
Hospitals aren’t equipped to treat dental problems. We diagnose the source of pain, treat the infection or injury, and repair damaged teeth—usually the same day—so you get real, lasting relief.

  1. Immediate exam and x-rays
  2. Clear explanation of what’s wrong
  3. Options to fix the issue—today or later

Can you treat me the same day?

In many cases, yes. We start with a focused exam and digital x-rays to diagnose the problem quickly. If you’re in a lot of pain, Dr. Hu will do everything possible to stabilize or treat the tooth during that visit—so you leave feeling better, not waiting days for relief.

What if I haven't seen a dentist in a long time?

We will never judge or lecture you. Dr. Hu’s goal is to help you move past this moment and get healthy again. Many of our emergency patients stay on with us long-term once they see how comfortable and supportive our office feels.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, the most important step is to contact our office right away. We reserve time for same-day emergency visits so we can help you get out of pain quickly. Until you’re able to come in, here are general guidelines for the most common situations.

I have a toothache

Rinse with warm water and gently floss to remove anything trapped between the teeth. Do not place aspirin on the gums—it can cause burns. Over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses can help until your visit.

I broke my tooth

Save any pieces if possible and bring them with you. Avoid chewing on that side until we can evaluate the damage.

My tooth got knocked out

Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root. Rinse gently if dirty, but do not scrub. If you can, place it back in the socket. If not, store it in milk or saliva and come in immediately. Teeth have the best chance of survival if treated within an hour.

My dental crown fell off

Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on it. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can protect the tooth until your appointment.

Emergency Dentistry Technology

Intraoral Camera

Intraoral Cameras

An intraoral camera is a small, pen-sized device that captures detailed color images and video inside your mouth. Dr. Hu uses it to show you exactly what he sees—cavities, cracks, worn fillings, or gum problems—displayed on a screen right in front of you. This technology helps you understand why treatment is recommended and makes dental problems visible and easy to comprehend.

We use intraoral cameras during routine and emergency exams and consultations to improve communication and help you make informed decisions about your care.
